GPSC and UU, subsidiaries of PTT and East Water respectively, jointly develop an eco-friendly infrastructure by introducing nationwide waste water recycling to treat waste water effectively in order to conserve the environment.
Today (March 30, 2015), Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC), the electricity arm of PTT Plc, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Universal Utilities Company Limited (UU), a subsidiary of East Water, to jointly study and develop waste water treatment facilities to recycle waste water in potential areas, starting with the eastern industrial estates.
GPSC Chairman… Surong Bulakul said, “The signing of this MOU with UU has an aim to study and develop waste water treatment infrastructure to recycle waste water to be sufficient and sustainable sources of industrial water. This will help reduce the need to rely on natural resources and manage water effectively, so that there is enough water for consumption and agricultural activities, especially in the dry season. This project is a part of GPSC’s effort to increase our competitive advantage and add value to our organization, benefitting all the stakeholders. It’s also our contribution on sustainable society and environment.”
Wittaya Chaisuwan, Chairman of UU and East Water, said that the MOU has an objective to jointly study and develop waste water treatment facilities to recycle waste water from household use to be recycled as industrial water, using modern technology, to supply to the industry. The potential areas are industrial estates, power plants, and factories.
“This collaboration marks an important step, for an electricity expert and a water expert to work together to develop sustainable facilities by combining our knowledge, expertise, and experience, to maximize this project,” Wittaya said.
This pioneer project will be a recycling waste water in Pattaya city, where it is estimated that there will be 200,000 cubic metres of waste water per day in the next five years. At present, treated waste water is released into the sea. Therefore, this project meets the needs in many aspects; reusing the waste water, reducing the release of treated waste water into the sea. This made a new, sustainable water source and also mitigating the risk of the industrial water crisis in the eastern of Thailand.
“Our involvement in the water recycling business demonstrates the potential of East Water in strengthening water security in the eastern region of the country and reaffirm our vision to become the leader of the water industry who has social and environment responsibility.”
