GPSC signs MOU with NNCL to develop the first phase solar rooftop, expecting to start construction by early 2018 with Bt.2,000 million investment budget.

GPSC signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NNCL to develop the first phase solar rooftop system and smart grid power system in Navanakorn industrial estate in Pathum Thani province, expecting to develop further to be a Smart City. The project is due to start by early 2018 with total capacity of 50 MW that worth Bt.2,000 million of investment budget.

Dr. Toemchai Bunnag, Chief Executive Officer and President of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, a power and utility flagship of PTT Group, said GPSC has signed a MOU with Navanakorn Public Company Limited (NNCL) to develop (1) a solar rooftop system (2) a technology of Energy Storage System (ESS) and (3) a Smart Grid connection system in the Navanakorn industrial promotion zone. The project is due to start early in 2018 with the power generating capacity of 50 MW and worth the investment budget of Bt.2,000 million.

“This MOU signing aims at studying the way to develop a solar rooftop and connect it with the smart grid. The NNCL has trustfully selected GPSC to be a partner for this project as NNCL has realized our potential and expertise in the sector as we are the power flagship of PTT Group. Also, GPSC is the company that has focused on the importance of the Energy Ministry to generate and manage clean energy efficiently in order to preserve environment and help reduce greenhouse gas,” said Dr. Toemchai.

Moreover, GPSC also plans to join the project to develop technology of Energy Storage System, which the Energy Ministry aims to create a pilot project within 2018. This is to make Thailand to develop itself along with the global trend, which is to develop electricity from clean renewable sources of power, including solar, wind, biomass and biogas. Then, the development of ESS is expected to help increase the efficiency of those renewable power generating system. At the same time, the smart grid system has become more popular since it has emerged as a major part to develop into the Smart City.

“Smart Grid is widely used in this era, when people are interested in clean power such as solar and wind because it helps manage the way to store power and increase efficiency of the storage system. It is also cut power expense and help preserve the environment,” Dr.Toemchai said.

Mr. Nipit Arunvongse Na Ayudhya, Chief Executive Officer of the Navanakorn Public Company Limited (NNCL) said NNCL has provided specific information, allocate an appropriate location as well as help conduct a feasibility study for GPSC in developing the Smart Grid system. This is the way to create new innovation and new technology development that would lead to the creation of the Smart City in the future.

“NNCL will receive several benefits from the Solar Rooftop Project with revenue from sales of electricity, environmental support from using sustainable energy, and directly reducing the cost of energy for more than 200 residence factories in the industrial zone, as we progress towards our goal of building a Smart City,” said Mr. Nipit.
