Five finalists selected for the Third Season of GPSC's YSI Project

5 creative youth teams qualified for the final round of the 3rd GPSC Young Social Innovator (YSI) 2020. The finalists were chosen from more than 300 entries from educational institutions and young students across Thailand. The winners will be announced in early 2021 and the winning projects will be used as models for efficient and practical use of local resources to create innovations for the communities.

Mr. Narongchai Visutrachai, Senior Vice President Government Relations and Public Affairs of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovative power flagship of PTT Group, revealed today (September 20, 2020) that GPSC has organized the 3rd Young Social Innovator competition and announced the five teams that could make progress to the final round. This year’s project has attracted more than 300 entries under the “Sustainable Energy, Natural Resources and Environment” concept from educational institutions and young students across the country. 30 teams were qualified for the first round, consisting of one team from the northern region, 13 teams from the central region, 6 teams from the northeastern region, 4 teams from the eastern region, and 6 teams from the southern region. Among the 30 teams, five are selected as the finalists and will receive funds for research and development of their projects which can be a model for innovative and practical use of local resources that can lead to efficient and environmental friendly energy consumption.

The five finalists include

1. Team YOUNG SCIENCE SR 2 from Saharajrangsarid school, project’s title: Foot oder spray “ThaoHOM”
2. Team YOUNG SCIENCE SR from Saharajrangsarid School , project’s title: Pickled fish acid mixing zinc oxide reduces odor antifungal add weight rubber.
3. Team young's box from Khirimatpittayakom , project’s title: fruits box renew
4. Team SPT magic project from Satri Phatthalung school , project’s title: Innovation cushioning and slow down the ripening of fruit from banana fiber
5. Team KKW Nano- Z from Khonkaenwittayayon , project’s title: The Innovation for Managing Oil Slick from Household by Use Para Sponge mix with Hermit Flowers and Nano Carbon Black for apply to Charcoal from Durian Peel mix with Hermit Flowers and Nano Carbon Black.

These five teams will participate in the final round of the 3rd GPSC Young Social Innovator 2020 competition to be held in early 2021. The first-place winner will be awarded an H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Trophy along with a certificate and a 50,000-baht scholarship. The first and the second runners-up and the two teams that win an Honorable

Mention will receive a plaque, a certificate and a 30,000-baht scholarship, a 20,000-baht scholarship, and a 10,000-baht scholarship respectively.

In addition, GPSC has also granted supporting fund worth a total of 32,000 baht to four outstanding teams for further development of their innovations to benefit the society and communities. The selected teams include

1. Team Saint Fin-nich from Saintnicholas school , project’s title: The study on repening fruit to development Prototype ripening fruit sensor
2. Team WARISA from NAWAMITHARACHINUTHIT SATRIWITAYA PHUTHAMONTHON , project’s title: Sheet Cleaned from fiber of Rice Straw, For increase efficiency Phenoric compound from Piper Berle Extract and Guava leaf Extract
3. Team Life’s a wave from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Pathum Thani , project’s title: The Absorbs Electromagnetic of Cell Phone Pouch from Natural Rubber Mixed with Nickel Coated Carbon Fiber
4. Team Sue Saming from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Lopburi , project’s title: Heat maker device for broom handle's pattern making

“The GPSC YSI youth project contest is beneficial to the youths by laying good foundation and increasing their knowledge on how to maximize the use of local resources and appreciate the value of local resources that can be used to increase the efficiency of energy usage. GPSC places great importance on youth educational development in different dimensions with the hope that young people can improve themselves and become quality personnel in the future. They will also play significant roles in the development of economy in the communities and the country, ensuring its strong growth, which is essential to the country’s development in the long run,” said Mr. Narongchai.

The project is in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility or CSR policy that aims to encourage Thai children and youths to learn how to use resources responsibly, which can lead to sustainable betterment of communities and environmental conservation.
