GPSC-OR unveils G-Box, a Battery Energy Storage System, at a PTT station, creating solutions to meet the electric vehicle trends

Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon President & CEO, PTT, Mr. Worawat Pitayasiri, President & CEO, GPSC and Miss Jiraphon Kawswat President & CEO, OR unveiled G-Box, a 150 kWh Battery Energy Storage System pilot project, at PTT station Nongkhaem. The project, which is aimed at the electric vehicle trends, will support an EV Station, provide comprehensive power supply solutions for different activities at the station, and ensure power supply stability and energy cost reduction through effective energy management.

Mr. Worawat Pitayasiri, President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovative power flagship of PTT Group, revealed that today (24 February 2021) GPSC and OR had unveiled the G-Box, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which will further develop and build upon G-Cell, using Semi-Solid technology to enhance energy management efficiency. The project is first piloted at PTT station Nongkhaem.

“The installation of a 150 kWh G-Box will lower the daytime peak load, supplying power mainly for electric vehicles and creating electricity stability for the station, and during the nighttime or off-peak load, the power will be distributed to other facilities. The system will store energy during the off-peak period for peak period supply, which will reduce electricity bills and enable us to expand our network of EV Stations more quickly to keep up with the future demand for the service, especially in areas with a poor power system,” said Mr. Worawat.

The development of the G-Box solution is one of GPSC’s Battery Journey strategies to propel technology that chiefly aims to make commercial use of battery innovation in different businesses. GPSC will continue to develop new solutions and the battery business can serve its purpose of becoming a comprehensive energy management solution provider.

Miss Jiraphon Kawswat, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited or OR, reveals that the GPSC’s G-Box, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), will be integrated with a 50 kW quick-charge EV Station at PTT Station Nongkhaem as a pilot project to maximize the stability in power usage for EV station’s customers. If this project had a concrete positive result, OR would consider to expand the project to other PTT Stations and to raise the battery power capacity to match the use of EV Stations.

This project symbolizes the synergy between PTT Group companies to create sustainability for the group’s businesses.

OR, as a leader in petrol service station business through the network of PTT Stations across the country with variety of products and service to meet our customers need and lifestyle, was the first to introduce alternative energy to the market, including EV, which now becomes a trend. We aim to be a leader in EV Stations on the main roads across the country to deliver impressive customer experience, especially those who travel and charge the vehicle En-Route. We can also use the takeaways to enhance our service for better customer satisfaction. We currently have 30 EV Stations, with a combination of normal-charge and quick-charge. We have also created an application ‘EV Station’ to ensure our customers convenience. Moreover, OR is ready to seek for opportunities to expand our EV Station network in potential areas, both inside and outside PTT Station and also to join with potential partners to create fully electric vehicle ecosystem in Thailand.
